Here’s some sure-fire strategies you can use to make sure your promotion gets done quickly leaving you more time to do other fun stuff.

Bloggers and Affiliate Marketers: Here’s how to protect your site from spammers and comment bots

I’m a blogger like many of you. If you have been blogging for some time you know what a headache spammers and bots can cause.

You wake up one day and have a ton of comments, before you pat yourself of the back for having posted something so awesome, realize these are most likely spam comments created by bots. Sometimes these robotic posters can crash your site, or cause your provider to disable your blog.

Google has prepared a list of things you can do to limit spam to keep your site functioning and current with new anti-spam strategies. I have employed most of these on my own blogs, especially the captcha. I recommend using the Captcha code that Google provides as I find it the most effective and easy to implement, oh and it’s free too. On some blogs I have turned commenting off completely as they seemed to be targets and the actual comments were few. Askismet is am automated tool I have used for many years and I find it to be effective on WordPress blogs. Moderators are also a great way to balance out the growing work load of keeping up with spammers. The best practice is to keep your blog updated, and be proactive with these simple defense steps.

Google doesn’t make mention of WordFence, but I also highly recommend this security service for WordPress blogs, it offers a basic free tool that is excellent. The first time I ran WordFence I was blown away at how many real-time threats were being made on my little blog at any give time. WordFence can give you some peace of mind that your blog is safe.

How to protect your site from user generated spam, robotic spam commenting

As a website owner, you might have come across some auto-generated content in comments sections or forum threads. When such content is created on your pages, not only does it disrupt those visiting your site, but it also shows some content that you may not want to be associated with your site to Google and other search engines.

Comments and forum threads can be a really good source of information and an efficient way of engaging a site’s users in discussions. This valuable content should not be buried by auto-generated keywords and links placed there by spammers.

There are many ways of securing your site’s forums and comment threads and making them unattractive to spammers:

•Keep your forum software updated and patched. Take the time to keep your software up-to-date and pay special attention to important security updates. Spammers take advantage of security issues in older versions of blogs, bulletin boards, and other content management systems.

•Add a CAPTCHA. CAPTCHAs require users to confirm that they are not robots in order to prove they’re a human being and not an automated script. One way to do this is to use a service like reCAPTCHA, Securimage and Jcaptcha .

•Block suspicious behavior. Many forums allow you to set time limits between posts, and you can often find plugins to look for excessive traffic from individual IP addresses or proxies and other activity more common to bots than human beings. For example, phpBB, Simple Machines, myBB, and many other forum platforms enable such configurations.

•Check your forum’s top posters on a daily basis. If a user joined recently and has an excessive amount of posts, then you probably should review their profile and make sure that their posts and threads are not spammy.

•Consider disabling some types of comments. For example, It’s a good practice to close some very old forum threads that are unlikely to get legitimate replies.
If you plan on not monitoring your forum going forward and users are no longer interacting with it, turning off posting completely may prevent spammers from abusing it.

•Make good use of moderation capabilities. Consider enabling features in moderation that require users to have a certain reputation before links can be posted or where comments with links require moderation.
If possible, change your settings so that you disallow anonymous posting and make posts from new users require approval before they’re publicly visible.
Moderators, together with your friends/colleagues and some other trusted users can help you review and approve posts while spreading the workload. Keep an eye on your forum’s new users by looking on their posts and activities on your forum.

•Consider blacklisting obviously spammy terms. Block obviously inappropriate comments with a blacklist of spammy terms (e.g. Illegal streaming or pharma related terms) . Add inappropriate and off-topic terms that are only used by spammers, learn from the spam posts that you often see on your forum or other forums. Built-in features or plugins can delete or mark comments as spam for you.

•Use the "nofollow" attribute for links in the comment field. This will deter spammers from targeting your site. By default, many blogging sites (such as Blogger) automatically add this attribute to any posted comments.

•Use automated systems to defend your site. Comprehensive systems like Akismet, which has plugins for many blogs and forum systems are easy to install and do most of the work for you.

Question: What’s the gig on SEO Submission services. Do they work? Is it worth the money? I don’t have a lot to spend so any advice you can give is much apprech.

Answer: Thanks for the question. The answer to this question is complex. Big sigh…. where do I start.

If you are on a limited budget know that generally speaking a lot of the automated SEO Submission sites are over-rated.
We’ve tested a number of them, tracked traffic and referral links and on our test of 100 sites we noticed no significant traceable difference in traffic over a 30 day, 90 day, and 6 month data analysis. We did notice a very small, referral link increase of about 2% on average.
Using some of these low cost submission sites are not likely to hurt you but they won’t help you significantly either.
If you want to use them, don’t spend more then a modest amount of money each month. And monthly submission is better than one time submission, as indexes, search engines, and directory sites are constantly changing how they index and rank sites.
If I were to suggest one low cost option it would be http://www.SEOOptimizerPro.com get a free 30 day trial. If you like the results you get, upgrade to the paid membership, if not it hasn’t cost you anything.

Now, if you are a Do It Yourselfer and have the patience and time to implement your own strategies to increase your site ranking here are some things that will help you get started. Don’t expect instant results though, this method takes a lot of time and consistent effort but it won’t cost you anything.

1. Start a niche blog. If your business, or site is very specific, start a domain name based blog of your own. NOT A FREE BLOG. Get your own so you are promoting yourself, and you are not vulnerable to the free services when they decide to just shut your blog down one day for no reason. On your blog, use key words in your titles, and in your blog content. Make sure everything on your blog is related to your niche. Stay on topic. Make a list of what your keywords are for what you are offering. Don’t overdo it with your key words but know what words are key to people finding you and integrate them logically into your content. Post often. Every day if you can. Hint. Turn commenting off on your blog or you will be overridden by bots and they will eventually crash your blog.

2. Get a Google + account and set up a collection or profile for your site/niche/topic. Post content on a regular basis related to your niche, your site, your business. Use your established key words in your content and in really good descriptive titles. Google+ posts get indexed often within hours so you will see results more quickly here. Be an unabashed self promoter. Include pictures, links, keep it on topic, use your key words.

3. Get a Facebook Business Page, and Fan Page. Again, integrate your key words, stay on topic, make the pages public. Include your link on all your other postings you do.

4. If you don’t have a Twitter account get one. Tweet your postings, include your keywords and your URL (site address)

5. Get a LINKEDIN account, set up a group. Title it something to do with your niche market. Invite people to join your group. Post to it often, again use your keywords, stay on topic.

Now…. if you don’t have time for all of that, then you have the option to hire an SEO expert. The only SEO experts I would recommend are those that do your SEO for you by hand. That’s right they do the kinds of things I have outlined about for you. THEY identify your key words, your target market, and then they manually set up those kinds of social media accounts for you and do your postings. Hire someone who can prove to you the results they have got for their clients. For this service be prepared to pay more money. Most often it is a monthly fee, and they do so many posts monthly to keep your accounts active and your content fresh and new which is like honey to attract search engines. Hint: You can often find SEO experts who will do this kind of work in countries like China and Indonesia at a reasonable cost. Just be sure to get a portfolio of clients and ask for proof of results. Be wary of services that charge you a fee to get you 1,000 likes, or 5,000 followers, or that do fake product reviews, that’s a red flag and may come back to bite you in the butt.

I will stop there as there is a lot more to say about SEO but it can be very long winded and confusing for new marketers. I don’t want to discourage you I just want you have a basic understating about SEO and awareness that it’s not easy to get high ranking and it is ever changing.

Question. Linda, what advice do you have for new Worldprofit Members to get off to the best possible start?

Answer: My advice is to follow George Kosch’s bootcamp training and join all the safelists and traffic exchanges in 20+ traffic streams and use them everyday…also join more…more is better..watch my video in the Member area .. I recorded it a while ago but I still do this now the same way, the same formula.

Question: What are some of your daily habits that have contributed to your success and achievement?

Affiliate Marketers! Here’s 5 Things you can do right now to increase your sales!

1. EXPAND your promotions.
Too many marketers promote to just one or two places.
You will get better results if you expand your promotion to more places including Safelists, Traffic Exchanges and Classified Ad sites.
Use a password management tool like RoboForm to save your passwords so you aren’t wasting time entering passwords over and over again.

2. Target it! Some promotion sites allows you to target specific countries so your promotions will only be seen in the countries where you can sell to.
By targeting specific countries you will get more bang for your advertising buck.

3. Mix it up. Vary your ads by content and subject line. The best ads are short, punchy, easy to read. Lead with a catchy subject line then make your copy full of benefits. Tell people what they will get, if they act now. Test your ads for click rate. If you see certain subject lines are getting better click rates, then take notice of that, vary the words you use to keep it fresh. Short subject lines are best. Keep your content brief too. Point form is ideal, use formatting and spacing to keep it easy to read.

4. Schedule promotions! If you are using an autoresponder or newsletter service like Aweber, be sure to use the scheduled mailing features. It’s a great time saver. Just enter your newsletter copy and schedule the dates to send it out. This way you spend 15 minutes entering your ads to go out over the period of time you specify.

5. Optin-baby! Always include an optin for your newsletter on any sales copy you send out. That way you generate leads at the same time as you are growing your own email marketing list. A list is pure gold because your offers may change but you will always have a list of prospects.
