It is our pleasure to feature Mr. William Buck in our Member Spotlight!

You may have already met William in Worldprofit’s LIVE Business Center where he helps people from around the world – from all walks of life, take the first step to changing their life by starting an online business. William faced some difficult challenges in his own life but he didn’t let that get him down. Instead he made the decision to join Worldprofit, to learn about online marketing, and focus to work hard to grow his own online business. Today, by making that decision, William is a successful internet business owner. William is also changing other people’s lives by volunteering as a Worldprofit Monitor. In that role, he introduces others to the opportunity to use the tools and resources offered at Worldprofit to start their own online business.

I asked William to share a little bit about himself and what brought him to Worldprofit.

Here’s what he had to say.

“I was sidelined from work due to back problems. My spine went out on me and I was down on the floor for over 8 hours. But I did not stop or give up, for I knew there was something out there that I could do. So my wife got me a computer and I began to look for a new way to earn not willing to give up. I was still having severe pain with my back but I was determined to continue to effect a positive change in my life. With my computer I was able to find Worldprofit and with the help of the Worldprofit staff, I was able to learn, I felt empowered to move forward.”

I asked William if he had any advice for others just getting started, or who are fearful about started their own online business.

“When someone tells you NO or tells you to give up, step up to the plate and say YES I can and I WILL. Don’t give up.
Some of you may have problems of your own, or you may have debilitating back problems like me. Don’t feel defeated, instead let it empower you to go for the goal in your life. I was cobbled together with titanium in my back… but I had unequalled resolution in my mind. The Lord is my shepherd and I rose to the task at hand. You can too.”

What Kind of Online Marketer are you? A Dabbler or a Doer? Your Answer Matters.

Every day I talk to people who are trying to earn an honest buck in an online business. These are average people who come from all walks of life, from all corners of the globe. The common goal they share is the desire to earn money online in any number of online affiliate or reseller type programs. Although the goal is the same, the approach to making this happen is always different and so too are the results. I have outlined here the marketing approaches that I observe everyday, the ones that are effective and the ones that aren’t. See if you recognize yourself in any of these examples.

The Dabbler.

The Dabbler’s marketing approach involves putting a little bit of effort into this and a little bit of effort into that. This type of marketer will post a few blogs, send a few tweets, join a safelist or two and participate in a handful of traffic exchanges. This person has a basic understanding of what is required to market their online business. The problem is they simply won’t commit to rolling up their sleeves, digging in and doing what is necessary to consistently promote and build results. They are too busy talking about it, planning it, and getting organized. The Dabbler sometimes doubles as an excuse-machine. They readily offer up reasons for not having completed the necessary tasks to build their business. Or, they easily assign blame to others for their lack of success. It has always puzzled me how it is so easy to find reasons for not being successful. What about all the reasons why you CAN be successful? The Internet offers burgeoning earning opportunities!

The Learner.

This type of marketer is a professional online student. They read continuously, watch videos, sign up for everything to get even more details and more help. They are so busy learning, and soaking up knowledge they never actually DO anything or apply what they learn. They are never ready to START applying what they have learned. They want to study more, take it all in, buy more books, take more courses. The Internet itself, and marketing strategies are constantly evolving. You will never know every last detail about marketing and when you think you are getting close, technology will change again. Stop with the learning and start with the doing! Everyday you focus ONLY on learning, is another day you have not made a dime. Dive in, get wet, start promoting your business, products and services – now – RIGHT NOW! Yes, there is much to learn about online marketing, never stop learning but be sure to never stop MARKETING.

The Sweat and Tears Syndrome

This marketer is the saddest one of all. They promote with a frenzied intensity in short bursts spending hours in all the wrong places, promoting all the wrong things. They furiously tap away for hours at their keyboard “working their business” late into the night for 2, 3 days, maybe a week or more. Their blog is bursting with good key word content, they’ve tweeted like a mad person, they’ve bought leads with great promises from a sketchy vendor that seemed to good to be true. Exhausted, they pause and wait for the results. When they don’t get instant results, the sweat turns to tears. Frustrated they swear, stomp, tantrum and move on to the next greatest online money-making program ever – that is in pre-launch! The insanity begins again. This type of marketer has no patience, and leaps from one program to another, with no loyalty or commitment.

The Doer

The DOER is the marketer that SUCCEEDS! The DOER is the one who doesn’t get caught up in all the details. The DOER is a courageous beast. They blunder, make mistakes, but carry on. They understand the sheer power of the web to market products to the world and to profit from their labour. They understand that with the right products and tools they can sell anything! The web is fat with buyers. DOERS understand that you MUST have patience, and MUST work a business constantly, knowing this means consistent promotion every day. DOERS accept that there will be frustrating times, failures, and obstacles on the path to success. The DOERS I know, aren’t always the people you might expect. Many of the DOERS I know are average people, with very little sales or technical background. Their gift is that they are not afraid to try, they don’t give up, they dig in and work hard. There are DOERS all over the world right now marketing their products, services, and affiliate programs in all corners of the web, turning a profit each and every day. This type of marketer has tapped into the right resources, training and tools, applies them consistently, setting realistic goals carrying a positive attitude.

Here is my advise to you as an online marketer on your way to success.

Every single day when you wake up, set a goal for yourself. Make your goal realistic and measurable. Post your goal on your computer, date it.

Initially your goal may be to simply find 5 great places to promote your business. Then your goal may evolve into actually posting your ads, product, service or opportunity to 5, then 10, 20+ sites each day. Once the promotion is is place, set goals for the number of sales each day.

As your business grows never lose your focus on that goal. Don’t get distracted. Remember, at the end of the day you want to actually have made money! Tweeting, face booking, article submissions, and blogging HELP your business grow but are not direct profits in your pocket. Yes, promotion, networking and Search Engine positioning is important and you should work at this but it takes time to do this. Do not let these activities overwhelm you to the point where you forget to make money! Keep your eye on the prize.

Set a goal for a minimum earnings per day. Start off realistic. If you don’t make that amount today, set a new goal for tomorrow. When you start making money, adjust your daily goals accordingly. For those of you who are new to online marketing you CAN make money every single day provided you have the proper tools and resources to do so and of course great products and services to promote. Just make sure you are the DOER described in this article.

I close with a quote from one of my favourite DOERS, Ray Kroc, McDonald’s Corporation. “Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get.”

Question: Wallace, how long have you been an online marketer, or working to build your own online business?

Answer: I have been involved with the Internet from its early inception. I established my domain DEWAJ Synergy International as Pres. & CEO with a Mission Statement “From 1 To Infinity With Synergy.”  At first it was just Hobby Lobby and mostly fun. But I wanted to have my own Spaceship DEWAJ ( a Daring Enterprise With A Journey), loaded with a Bill of Lading (a Miniature Google as it were), offering Tools, Training, Applications, and TRAFFIC. But after spending countless thousands of dollars, I realized, I didn’t have the expertise or money to continue.  Then I ran across Worldprofit in its early days and realized George Kosch, and Sandi Hunter had done what I had in mind for my Spaceship DEWAJ.  Worldprofit had done it for me. I immediately joined, and the rest is history.

Question: Wallace, how much time you spend promoting to build your business?

Answer: I am lucky and retired, so I have all the time in the world. I admit I am at my computer more hours per day than I spent when I was gainfully employed, but that is my choice, not something that I HAVE to do. Anyone who can spend two hours per day diligently working smart can do what I have done. I put in the hours I do because the work I do is FUN as well as lucrative.

Question: Wallace, what kind of promotion do you do? Free? Paid? Both?

Answer: I am involved in both, but I know it takes money to make money and I operate on a budget mostly buying Solo Ads.

Question: Wallace, which Worldprofit services do you find the most useful in building your online business?

Can pooled knowledge be the key to curing disease?

Recently at a dear friend’s funeral, I heard someone remark that she would live on in our hearts and on her FaceBook page. For some of us there that day, the fact that Isabella still had a FaceBook page including recent posts made it seem she was still here among the living. Later that day I reflected on how much technology and the Internet has changed our lives in such a short time with so much more to come than most of us can imagine.

Facebook, Twitter and other social media connect us in ways we never could before.  Through these sites we know more of people than we ever knew before. What they are doing, where they are, personal details, photos and more are all posted online. People are willing to share personal details that you may have never known or they would never have told you. Computers once thought to be a past-time only for geeks and the socially awkward have become through the Internet, a powerful way to connect people around the world and as we are seeing more and more, a way to change the world.

But there is more, so very more to the benefits this technology offers each of us that extends beyond connecting with people via Facebook and Twitter. 

Mobile applications now allow people to do their favorite online activities from the convenience of their phone or iPad. While standing in a long line at the grocery store, I noticed  4 out of 10 people tapping away madly on their phones.  I snuck a covert look  at a  couple of them to see they were on Twitter, Facebook, checking email, reading news feeds or firing off a text message.  Spend anytime in an airport lounge and the majority of people have phones out and are pre-occupied with something far more interesting then the buzz of the airport around them.  Technology is integrated INTO our daily lives – no longer so separated.

At any given time thanks to our phones and the Internet we are all connected in a very personal way. Even when we are not in physical contact with our friends and loved ones, we feel that we are still close. No longer chained to our home computer, we can carry on our business, our hobbies and our relationships conveniently from our smart phones.

Five years ago when my company, Worldprofit released the Live Business Center it was brand new interactive technology. We were able to stream LIVE video to our website audience. When visitors landed on our site, they were startled to have someone on screen say hello to them.  People were shocked and confused! They couldn’t understand at first who was talking to them and how they were doing it.  Today, years later people are more comfortable with interacting with their computers and phones.    FaceTime on the IPhone for example has made it wonderfully easy to connect LIVE face to face with their family and colleagues.    Webinars once unknown are common now. Web-based conferences and meetings are convenient for the consumer, a money-saver for corporations and happily a good thing for the environment with fewer people traveling to meetings.

Today, Worldprofit offers a personalized version of the Live Business Center that our Members can use and add to their own site. The technology allows them to greet their site visitors, answer their questions, provide customer service, make offers, and close sales, In short , they can connect with prospective customers in real time.   Massive unemployment and world turmoil has meant that the number of home based businesses and entrepreneurs has skyrocketed.  The Internet  has allowed a person working from home incredible freedoms and opportunity to make money by selling products, promoting affiliate marketing programs,  blogging, offering web-based services and more.

As the world has now surpassed 7 BILLION people, I can’t help but think how we may be bigger but through the Internet the world feels smaller and closer.  Technology has made all of our lives better.  When like-minded people unite, good – even great ideas emerge.  Perhaps technology will be what moves us closer to solving problems, finding cures for diseases.

Technology powered by PEOPLE is changing our world – for the better – just look at these stories and start to imagine what is yet to come!

In September of this year, a group of video game players solved a molecular puzzle that has stumped scientists for years.  The gamers accomplished this by using a collaborative online game called "Foldit".   Foldit is a computer game that enables players to contribute to important scientific research. The area of focus is proteins and how they fold. Proteins are found in all living things and  involved in diseases such as cancer, AIDS and Alzheimer’s. According to the people at Foldit, "We’re collecting data to find out if humans’ pattern-recognition and puzzle-solving abilities make them more efficient than existing computer programs at pattern-folding tasks. If this turns out to be true, we can then teach human strategies to computers and fold proteins faster than ever!"  More than 236,000 players have registered for the game, that’s a lot of collective brain power to solve problems and a huge and growing body of knowledge from which to draw. What this means is that the door has been opened to discovering "crowd-sourced" solutions to age-old problems including AIDS and other diseases that have plagued mankind.

Take the case of the New York Times where readers were invited to solve an actual real-life medical mystery.  The basic facts of an illness were made available and readers were asked to diagnose the problem.  300 readers responded, and within the first 30 minutes of posting, a correct diagnosis was made and many more correct answers came in thereafter.  Think of the implications for pooled knowledge? A hive of brains working together to solve problems from all corners of the globe.

Finally, what happens when great technological minds meet for their own individual purposes but the side-effect of that collaboration being a benefit for all of humanity.  Google’s Peter Novig and Microsoft’s Eric Horvitz recently met to discuss artificial intelligence. These two companies may be fierce business competitors but they both recognize the importance of artificial intelligence to the future of technology. Both of these creative minds spoke publicly about how machine-learning techniques have advanced by taking in large volumes of data and figuring out how to translate text or transcribe speech. As users of the new IPhone 4G already know, SIRI, the Voice activated assistant is here now but is only the beginning.  Data, mass amounts of data is information. Knowledge is power. 

The future is so very exciting!  Imagine how every human being on the planet will benefit as new technology emerges that can extract specific data for problem resolution for everything from preventing traffic jams, to precise medical diagnosis, to eliminating oil spills, to research and space travel. There are no limits.

Facebook was really an accidental early social experiment. What we are learning now is that social media and other massed pooled data may be instrumental in social adaptation and actual survival.
